These guys are on the Adriatic coast in the Marche, a place relatively
unknown to foreign tourists but a big wine producing region -- a
beautiful and relatively non-touristy place where the sea is framed by
the pennine mountain range. The soils are informed by these mountains
made of limestone, and vineyards are cooled and salt sprayed by
coastal breezes. The Agricola SBV guys say this about '𝙼𝚘𝚕𝚘 𝚍𝚒
𝙻𝚎𝚟𝚊𝚗𝚝𝚎' (which translates to 'East Pier': "This wine is the
true identity of Pesaro. You spend hours there watching the
fishermen, the boats going in and out, listening to grandparents tell
the story of the lighthouse. And you have to see those sunsets! It
was the perfect name to give our Bianchello, wasn't it?"
It's technically an orange wine, with 12 days on the skins, but 'Molo
di Levante' drinks more like a savory, salty white -- no obvious
tannins or funk, just a clean, fun, complex white with texture that is
perfect for summer food and beach days. Golden apple, apricot,
citrus, salt and herbs on a chalky, rocky mineral background - yum.
