The vineyards of Pernand-Vergelesses are on a very hilly area. They stretch over the slopes in between the hills of Aloxe Corton and Savigny-les-Beaune. In the village of Pernand-Vergelesses only six plots are classified as red Premiers Crus: les Fichots, en Caradeux, Creux de la Net, Iles des Vergelesses, Les Vergelesses, and Les Plantes des Champs. This locality is one of the oldest vineyards of Burgundy. It was planted in 1158 by the monks of the Abbaye de Maizières on a limestone marl soil.
